Sharmilee Established 1973.
Sharmilee has been producing traditional Indian sweets and vegetarian delicacies since it was founded in 1973 by the Gosai family, who continue to run the business today.
Our founder, Mr L.V. Gosai, came to the UK after spending 30 years running the Dar-Es-Salaam Hotel in Tanzania. Finding it difficult to get hold of the traditional Indian sweets or mithai that he had grown up with, he began producing handmade Indian sweets and savouries himself. He set up the Sharmilee sweet shop on Belgrave Road with his three sons, and the business flourished. The authentic Indian sweets and savouries, which are all freshly handmade on site, have become one of the most beloved local brands.
In 1988, the shop expanded, and the Sharmilee Vegetarian Restaurant began serving delicious Indian dishes. Although the menu has evolved over the years, so that it now includes dishes from all across the Indian continent, as well as some with a Chinese influence, every order is still prepared fresh, from start to finish, just like the very best home-cooked meals. We pride ourselves on using the best ingredients, following the most authentic recipes, and having the most dedicated staff.
